rPeptide has been an industry leader in the production of recombinant neurodegenerative disease proteins and peptides for the last 17 years. Among these products are the Beta-amyloid peptides, which have long been viewed as a key component to the study of Alzheimer’s disease. Beta-amyloid peptide is the major constituent of amyloid plaques in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients and it is thought to be the cause of Alzheimer’s Disease (AD)1,2,3. Although the normal function of Beta-amyloid is not fully understood currently, studies indicate that within Alzheimer’s disease it forms oligomeric “seeds” that lead to plaques that are toxic to neurons1,2,3,4. Since AD is the most common neurodegenerative disease and afflicts about 10% of the population over 60, researchers are utilizing Beta-amyloid peptides in numerous experiments to develop a better understanding of the disease4. rPeptide currently offers a wide variety of human Beta-amyloid peptides including Beta-amyloid 1-40, Beta-amyloid 1-42, uniformly N15 labeled peptides, and uniformly 13C labeled peptides as well as various final formulations including NH4OH, TFA, HCl, HFIP, and NaOH. In addition to the individual peptides, rPeptide also provides scientists with kits such as the Aggregation Kits that contain combinations of peptides and chemicals that are commonly used in aggregation experiments.

rPeptide is now proud to offer our customers new tools in the study of Beta-amyloid peptides, the monoclonal antibodies Beta-amyloid 7E7 and 6C2. Beta-amyloid 7E7 and 6C2 are IgG antibodies that have been shown to work in ELISA and western experiments. Beta Amyloid 7E7 binds to monomeric forms of Beta-amyloid peptides that have been prepared in a manner in which the pI was never reached. In contrast, Beta-amyloid 6C2 binds to oligomeric forms of beta amyloid peptides. All 7E7 and 6C2 antibodies will be supplied with peptide that can be used as a positive control within customer experiments. These antibodies are complimentary tools that can be used to provide insight into the monomer and oligomer contents of the samples researchers are utilizing. A set of tools of like the 7E7 and 6C2 antibodies will benefit researchers greatly in experiment design as well as product development.
