Description: P65 is a subunit of the NF-KappaB, a second messenger, which activates the transcription of a number of genes in multiple tissues. It is a ubiquitously expressed protein that can bind to the kB site alone. In addition, p65 is shown to be the subunit responsible for providing transcriptional activity of the NF-kB (p65-p50) heterodimeric complex. The inhibitory effect of I-KappaB upon NF-KappaB in the cytoplasm is exerted primarily through the interaction with P65. It shows a weak DNA binding site, which could contribute directly to DNA binding in the NF-KappaB complex.
