Description: Povidone iodine (Betadine, PVP iodine, PVP-I, Isodine) is a stable chemical complex of polyvinylpyrrolidone (povidone, PVP) and elemental iodine. Povidone iodine displays excellent antibacterial activity against MRSA and MSSA strains with MICs of 31.25 mg/L and 7.82 mg/L, respectively. Povidone iodine is used as a topical antiseptic in surgery and for skin and mucous membrane infections, as well as as an aerosol.
